Plot Outline: ROLLING FAMILY is a warm, vivacious comedy about love, life, laughter and the compromises we make for family. When Emila, (Gracina) an Argentinian grandmother is invited to be the ‘matron of honor’ at the wedding of a distant niece she invites her whole family to accompany her. They set off in a 1956 Chevy Viking camper on a cross country journey to the border of Argentina and Brazil. Between the starting point of Buenos Aires and the destination of Misiones, all the anger, sorrow, attraction and warmth between four cramped generations comes to the surface. Sarah Jessica Parker and Harry Connick Jr. star in this oddly sunny attempt at black comedy. (And yes, it stoops to Dick jokes.) Parker plays Colleen, a good girl with a bad boyfriend named Dick. This problem is solved when she kills him within the film’s first few moments. The rest of the movie is filled with wackiness, some of which hits and some of which misses. The plot isn’t a bad one, with bits of information cleverly revealed through flashbacks and at least one pretty good twist, and the terrific (and sadly underused) Teri Garr appears in a cameo that she could do standing on her head. Life Without Dick is best suited for Harry Connick Jr. fans, as he spends most of the movie being affably handsome, and the other characters repeatedly beg him to sing. This earnest little comedy probably won’t ever find mass appeal, but its weirdness will doubtless find it a cult following somewhere. –Ali Davis
